MTL enhances Internet Access for Lions Sight First Eye Hospital

MTL recently donated Internet equipment and a one-year subscription to Lion’s Eye Hospital at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe.

The presentation of the donation was done by MTL’s Corporate Affairs Manager Tina Das who said health is one area of focus in the company’s corporate social responsibility and the company was delighted to partner with the eye hospital.

“As a company were are glad to contribute to the wellness of patients in as far as eye treatment is concerned.  We did not hesitate to respond to the hospital’s request especially considering that the hospital serves a community in which we are a part of,” said Das.

She added that this was just one of the partnerships the company has planned to embark on, with the education sector as another sector which will benefit from similar partnerships.

Receiving the donation, Lion’s Hospital Head of Department Dr. Kiran Kumar thanked MTL for the timely donation which he said would significantly help students with their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities which are a requirement in their studies.

“Internet is an Integral part of the CPD activities which will help us serve our patients as it will aid us in making more scientific research on the best and improved treatments that can be administered on our patients,” said Kumar.

He called upon other companies to emulate this good gesture and come to the aid of not only the Lion’s Eye Hospital but other providers rendering service to the communities.

Lion Sight First Eye Hospital is a non-profitable organization which has been providing quality eye testing and optometry services in Malawi for more than 15 years. It operates in collaboration with and inside the Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe. The Centre also pioneers in organizing various eye camps and outreach services for rural poor free of cost.
