MTL supports World Press Freedom
MTL demonstrated its commitment towards championing media freedom when it donated K530, 000 on 14th April 2016 to the local chapter of the Media Institute of Southern Africa in aid of the 2016 World Press Freedom Day commemoration.
Presenting the donation was Corporate Affairs Manager, Tina Das, who noted that the media are instrumental in the private sector’s business and the company values the role the media plays in society hence the company’s decision to walk the talk when it comes to partnership with the media fraternity.
“The media are instrumental in making our company visible to the members of the public. Whenever we have something going on at MTL the media informs the general public and that’s one way we are able to reach everyone everywhere,” she said.
Receiving the donation on behalf of MISA-Malawi, Chairperson Thom Khanje expressed that the money was MTL’s contribution to media freedom in Southern Africa and observed that the aid was a reflection of the relationship MTL has with the media.
“MTL is media-friendly, whenever it has events or news they tell us in the media. And this is a partnership that has been going on for a while and this contribution just goes to show how supportive MTL is towards the work of the media in the country,” he added.
This year’s World Press Freedom Day was commemorated on 3rd May 2016 under the theme “Access to Information and Fundamental Freedoms: This Is Your Right!”
